IBW Books Review & Giveaway
Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 2:15PM
Both of my kids love books. We have all types of books in our house from simple Dr. Suess to pop up books. Jack and Carly get a book sit on me or their dad's lap and have us read it to them. I am happy with that, it's great, but I however would love more interaction. I want to see them learning more and being able to really understand the story. This is why I was so excited to try Interactive Book Webscene (IBW). It seemed to have everything I was looking for.
IBW is a new way of reading. First you read the print book as usual, but IBW then expands and provides a weblink that takes the child to a interactive webscene. The webscene corresponds with the story you just read. Each one is not only fun for the child but is also a great educational tool. You do this for every chapter you visit the weblink and then go back to reading another chapter. There are six or more webscenes in every IBW book. I liked reading the books to Jack and Carly on the couch with my laptop close by. I had a hard time getting Carlys attention. I think she is still a little young. Jack on the other hand really took to it. Check out the video below of Jack doing a webscene:
Jack and I were reading from the The Busy Preschooler’s Guide to Learning – fun activities built around the 26 letters of the alphabet, with step-by-step help to guide parents in how to use everyday situations to teach 105 skills their kids need before they walk in the kindergarten door. This was for sure the right choice for Jack. Jack is currently 3 years old.
Heres a little more information about IBW books from there site: The Interactive Book-Webscene proprietary process combines the reading of a print book with the interactivity of online animations. Here's how it works: At the end of each chapter, the reader is directed to a specific link on a website associated with the book. Here, the reader views a webscene. Webscenes contain 2D and 3D animations. Each webscene is essential to the storytelling. After viewing the webscene, the reader returns to the book to read another chapter, after which are instructions to view another webscene, and so on. Each book contains 6-10 webscenes.
